April Fool's on me

I was in charge of our preschool group today and because it is so close to Easter I thought it would be fun to have an Easter egg theme. Among the many fun things I chose to do we of course had to dye Easter eggs, so last night I boiled some. I had 2 dozen eggs in 2 different cartons so I boiled one dozen.
Today after we dyed the eggs I threw away the dye and gave the girls some stickers to decorate them with. One of the girls dropped an egg and then immediately after, Gigi dropped an egg. They both seemed pretty upset and I said, it's no big deal they will just have a little crack in them. Then I looked down...they were not hard boiled at all. There were 2 oozing raw eggs all over our rug. I apparently mixed up the cartons (maybe I really should get organized and label things!!) and had the girls dye raw eggs! What a crazy mom! So when the moms came to pick up their girls I had to explain that I was sending them home with colored raw eggs :)

Madeline's First Adventure

We're halfway through Spring Break, so we went into the city to see the sites we missed last time (plus the Rocky steps, of course). I realized halfway through that this was Madeline's first real trip ever. She has only left our place to check her jaundice (her bilirubin level finally came down).


This is the Ben Franklin Parkway and those flags are most, if not all, of the nations of the world. It was a little bit cold, so we decided to find a place to spend our time inside. Fortunately, we were in front of the world's largest collection of Rodin statues outside of Paris. It's amazing what you can stumble into in Philadelphia.


The museum is free, but as generous art patrons we slipped a few bucks into the suggested donation box. I think that made the attendant staring at us bringing children into the exhibit a little less stoic. Actually, it didn't. But we introduced Angelique to world class art for at least the second time in her life. Madeline caught on to the artist's style of expressive posing right away.



We got to eat our lunch in front of the Gates of Hell. It was wonderful family time.

Sun bathing

Madeline is still really yellow. Her bilirubin levels are not changing. The doctor's don't want to do anything at this point, but they keep on having us go in to get her levels re-drawn. So we have finally taken matters into our own hands. Due to the really snowy weather there hasn't been much sun, but today we took advantage of the few rays of sunlight. Hopefully it helps :)

First snow storm

Now that spring is upon us, Philly got a huge snowstorm. Gigi and I were finally able to go out and enjoy the snow... in march. It's pretty funny because this time last year we played in the snow for the first time as well. Go figure.
Gigi was thrilled with the weather and since Candy came over I was able to leave Madeline indoors and enjoy the outdoors with Gigi.


By far Gigi's favorite thing was to eat the snow...luckily she's learned not to eat the yellow stuff.


Okay so growing up in Utah you would think I would know how to make a proper snowman, but the snow was way to powdery and it wouldn't roll so after a few minutes we decided to just make an outline of a snowman. I really didn't want to post this picture due to the many snickers I am sure to receive, but David insisted so here you go :)

What a week!

It's hard to believe that Madeline has only been here for a little over a week. It feels like she's just always been a part of our family.
The adjustment has been much easier this time around. It is SO wonderful to not feel nauseated all of the time!
Here's a quick rundown of the week:
I was thrilled on Saturday when I went into labor on my own. I had been having light contractions for a day, but woke up from a nap around 4pm with my contractions about 5 minutes apart. We went to the hospital and had a very smooth laboring experience. It definitely wasn't fun, but nothing like my experience with Gigi. We spent Sunday and part of Monday in the hospital and then headed home. Madeline has been such a happy, calm girl. I really don't know if I have heard her cry for more than a few minutes at a time. She even seems to have her days and nights figured out. Last night she slept for 5 hours and I think would have slept longer, but I woke up and kind of panicked and woke her up and fed her.
The only problem we have had is with jaundice. We thought that she might have jaundice and the doctor agreed so we got a blood test done last Wednesday. It wasn't high enough to treat, but they wanted to follow it so they had me go in the next day. It hadn't gone down so they had me go in on Friday. Again it hadn't gone down, so they had me go in today. Hopefully it will be okay. I feel so bad for my little yellow girl.
It has been so much fun having her around. Luckily Gigi loves her too. She often wants to hug and kiss her, but is pretty gentle with her. The worst thing that she has done is accidentally squirt water in her eye while playing a game with me.

Last week Gigi was watching Snow White while I fed the baby and afterwards wanted to hold Madeline. Usually she just holds her for about 30 seconds and then says that she's done, but this time she snuggled up to me and I gave her the baby and put my arm around her to hold Madeline's head and we just stayed like that for over 30 minutes. It was such a sweet experience. I feel so blessed to have 2 precious girls.




A couple days ago David came home from studying and was exhausted, but really wanted to hold Madeline. So they took their first nap together. It has been so sweet to see David bond with this new baby.

My mom has been in town and my dad came into town on Thursday night to see the baby so we went ahead and had her blessed at home on Saturday night. We had been planning on doing it at the church, but because she was born so late I was nervous taking her to church. It ended up being a great experience though. We just had family and a few friends over. David did a great job on the blessing. It was so special to have him bless her. Afterwards we had some dinner, compliments of Candy and Tony. Thanks guys!!!!

My mom and dad left this morning and it is kind of weird having our place to ourselves again. Luckily my sister is only a phone call away. It really is great living by family.
